Maintaining a regular supply of disinfected and clean clothes on a regular basis is the main task of the laundry department. A hospital goes through a lot of linen and other textiles such as blankets, towels, napkins, pillow covers, curtains, doctor’s aprons, Operation Theater scrubs, chair and cushion covers, table cloths, and masks in a day. Regular washing, delivering the daily requirement, and maintaining the surplus washed, cleanly folded and stacked linen is the responsibility of the laundry department in the Hospital.
The hospital laundry collects materials to be laundered from different sections like Operation Theatre, Special and General Wards, OPD-(Out Patient Departments), and office areas. Operation Theatre linen needs special care, to be washed and sterilized carefully. Operation theater linen mostly bears Blood Stains and special chemicals are used to wash the linen from the OT section.
