Pediatric surgery is a subspecialty of surgery, which deals with neonates, infants, children and adolescents. It covers patients having surgical problems in the fetal period and neonates from day one to children aged 16 years of age.

The scope of Pediatric surgery involves neonatal surgery, pediatric general surgery, pediatric urology and pediatric surgeries of thoracic, plastic and neural involvement.

There is a state of the art, fully equipped neonatal ICU and nursery with trained staff members vital to stabilization, recovery and good outcome of patients. We also have a Pediatrics ward along with a pediatric ICU for patients ranging from the infantile period to adolescence. Post op care and critical care is provided and supervised.

The various types of pediatric surgical procedures performed include excision of meningocele, encephalocele, and ventriculoperitoneal shunting for hydrocephalus. Diaphragmatic hernias, various pediatric tumours, bowel atresia, imperforate anus, bleeding PR, rectal polyps and problems of constipation with anal fissures or Hirschsprung’s disease are also managed. Gastroschisis, omphalocele, ectopia vesicae, cases of UTIs, with surgical conditions like pelviureteric junction obstruction, vesicoureteric reflux, and posterior urethral valves are managed in the department. Routine surgeries of inguinal hernias, hydrocele, undescended testes, hypospadias, circumcision and many other surgical cases in children are dealt with. Trauma and emergency cases are treated promptly.

Counselling before surgery is done routinely and patients are followed up in outpatient setting to monitor their progress.
