Northwest General Hospital caters to patients of Diabetes Mellitus through its Diabetes and Endocrinology Department. The service provides diabetes care and treatment for  Pre Diabetes care, T2DM, and T1DM in adolescents and young people (transition service aged 18-21) as well as pregnancy service for women planning pregnancy, gestational diabetes, and type1 and type 2 diabetes during pregnancy. The department also provides care through Retinopathy screening and foot assessment for people with diabetes. Patients requiring insulin pump initiation and stabilization and Continuous glucose monitoring are also cared for in the Department.

The endocrinology service provides acute and ambulatory outpatient service and an on-call service within the NWGH. The department offers care for the following:

  1. Calcium metabolism, Osteoporosis & metabolic bone disease
  2. Disease of thyroid, pituitary, and adrenal glands
  3. Hyperlipidemia
  4. Reproductive endocrinology
  5. Obesity
  6. Other endocrine related disease

Multi-Disciplinary Clinics

The department is also involved in multidisciplinary care through its  Diabetic foot clinic (Diabetologist, Surgeon {ortho/vascular/plastic}, orthotist /plastic/podiatrist), through Thyroid malignancy clinic (Endocrinology/Nuclear Physician/Oncologist) and through Thyrotoxicosis & Radioactive iodine clinic (Endocrinology/Nuclear physician).
